Annotation of Mosiah 5 – preliminary
Mosiah 5 is a good example because it shows that a high percentage of its language is also KJV language. Few of the KJV words/phrases are not also found in Edwards, including the so-called "blended" passages.
The blue Book of Mormon words/phrases in the annotation are nonbiblical and also not found in Edwards. In some cases noted below, the nonbiblical language is close to Edwards (e.g., plural instead of singular). There are several examples in the Book of Mormon of paraphrased or misquoted passages from the KJV that are identical to paraphrased or misquoted KJV passages in Edwards' works.
The red words/phrases are nonbiblical Book of Mormon wording that are also found in Edwards' works as available on the Yale database, which includes most but not all of the 1808 edition, as well as material not included in the 1808 edition.
Purple are nonbiblical Book of Mormon words/phrases similar to Edwards.
Naturally, Edwards is not the only person who ever used this nonbiblical Book of Mormon terminology. English is a common language or we couldn't understand one another. But the ready availability of Edwards' works in Palmyra during Joseph's youth indicates that Edwards was a possible source for Joseph's vocabulary that he used when translating the plates.

Chapter 5
The Saints become the sons and daughters of Christ through faith—They are then called by the name of Christ—King Benjamin exhorts them to be steadfast and immovable in good works. About 124 B.C.
1 And now, it came to pass that when king Benjamin had thus spoken to his people, he sent among[1] them, desiring to know[2] of his people if they believed the words[3] which he had spoken unto them.
2 And they all cried with one voice[4], saying: Yea, we believe all the words[5] which thou hast spoken unto us; and also, we know of their surety[6] and truth[7], because of the Spirit[8] of the Lord Omnipotent[9], which has wrought a mighty change[10] in us, or in our hearts[11], that we have no more[12] disposition[13] to do[14] evil[15], but to do good continually[16].
3 And we, ourselves[17], also, through the infinite goodness[18] of God, and the manifestations of[19] his Spirit, have great[20] views[21] of that which is to come[22]; and were it expedient[23], we could prophesy of all things[24].
4 And it is the faith[25] which we have had on the things which our king has spoken unto us that has brought us to[26] this great knowledge[27], whereby we do rejoice[28] with such exceedingly[29] great joy[30].
5 And we are willing to enter[31] into a covenant[32] with our God to do his will[33], and to be obedient to[34] his commandments in all things[35] that he shall command us, all the remainder of[36] our days[37], that we may not bring upon[38] ourselves a never-ending[39] torment[40], as has been spoken by the angel, that we may not drink out of the cup of the wrath[41] of God[42].
6 And now, these are the words[43] which king Benjamin desired of them[44]; and therefore he said unto them: Ye have spoken the words that I desired; and the covenant which ye have made is a righteous covenant[45].
7 And now, because of the covenant[46] which ye have made ye shall be called the[47] children of Christ[48], his sons, and his daughters[49]; for behold, this day he hath spiritually begotten[50] you; for ye say that your hearts are changed[51] through faith[52] on[53] his name; therefore, ye are born of him[54] and have become his sons and his daughters.
8 And under this head[55] ye are made free[56], and there is no other head[57] whereby ye can be made free. There is no other name[58] given whereby salvation[59] cometh; therefore, I would that[60] ye should take upon you the name of Christ[61], all you that have entered into the covenant[62] with God that ye should be obedient unto the end of your lives[63].
9 And it shall come to pass that whosoever doeth this shall be found[64] at[65] the right hand of God[66], for he shall know the name[67] by which he is called; for he shall be called by the name of Christ.
10 And now it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall not take upon him the name of Christ must be called[68] by some other name[69]; therefore, he findeth himself on the left hand of God[70].
11 And I would that ye should remember[71] also, that this is the name[72] that I said I should give unto you that never should[73] be blotted out[74], except it be through transgression[75]; therefore, take heed[76] that ye do not transgress[77], that the name be not blotted out of your hearts.
12 I say unto you, I would that ye should remember to retain[78] the name written always[79] in your hearts[80], that ye are not found[81] on the left hand of God, but that ye hear and know[82] the voice by which ye shall be called, and also, the name by which he shall call you.
13 For how knoweth a man[83] the master whom he has not served[84], and who is a stranger[85] unto him, and is far from the thoughts and intents[86] of his heart?
14 And again, doth a man[87] take an ass which belongeth to his neighbor, and keep him? I say unto you, Nay; he will not even suffer that he shall feed among his flocks, but will drive him away[88], and cast him out[89]. I say unto you, that even so shall it be among you if ye know not the name[90] by which ye are called.
15 Therefore, I would that ye should be steadfast and immovable[91], always abounding[92] in good works[93], that Christ, the Lord God Omnipotent, may seal you his[94], that you may be brought to heaven[95], that ye may have everlasting salvation[96] and eternal life[97], through the wisdom[98], and power, and justice[99], and mercy[100] of him who created all things[101], in heaven and in earth[102], who is God above all[103]. Amen.
