Created around 1961, it was part of the Saint-Etienne District until the creation of the Lyon Stake in 1990. It became a ward in 2011.

Created in January, 1976 with the name of Lyon branch, from November, 1976 to 1982 it was called Ecully branch, then became a ward in 1982 in the Geneva Switzerland stake, and became part of the Lyon stake in 1990. From its initial size, the second Lyon branch was created in 1986, then the Gerland branch in 2002 and the Val de Saône ward in 2014.

In the Church News of December 24, 2005, page 12, an article speaks of a special event in France : "French milestone: Celebration marks the 30th anniversary of the Lyon Ecully Ward meetinghouse."
